Senior discounts can save you money on all sorts of things.
Of course, there are meals and movie tickets, but senior specials can cut the cost of clothing, eyeglasses, gym memberships, haircuts, groceries and airplane tickets.
"Senior discounts tend to range from say 10 to 20 percent, but sometimes they can be a little higher," said Tobie Stanger, a senior editor at Consumer Reports.
The magazine found that AARP members – you can join at age 50 – qualify for lots of deals.
"At 1800Flowers.com you can get a 20 percent discount if you're an AARP member," Stanger said. "Also, craft supplies at Michaels stores are 10 percent off on Tuesdays for AARP members."
Consumer Reoprts also found a lot of discounts for people 55 and up. For example, at Ross Dress for Less, you can join their Tuesday Club and you get 10 percent off."]
Stanger says some merchants will give you a senior discount if you ask for one. So, she says, anywhere you go, ask if they offer any discounts.
"It doesn't hurt to ask," she said.
