Pocket Hose: Does it work?
»Play Video
Even people who enjoy yard work complain about dealing with cumbersome garden hoses. So who wouldn't be interested in a hose that promises to eliminate the hassle? The Pocket Hose looks like an extra-long hair scrunchie.
The commercial describes how it works:
"Just turn on the water and watch this mini-hose grow, and grow and grow to maximum length! Turn off the water, and it goes right back to its mini-size!"
In our test the hose expanded, as promised, as the water flowed to the nozzle. With the water turned off the hose contracted back to its original size. As for actually using the hose to water the garden, we found the connection at the nozzle leaked quite a bit. Despite tightening the connection and adjusting the washer, it was rather messy.
Drips aside, Pocket Hose worked and our tester found it to be esthetically more desirable than it's heavier, more cumbersome counterparts. One potential negative is the plastic connector parts and how long they'd last before breaking. Another negative for some people is you're supposed to disconnect the pocket hose and store it after each use to prolong its life, and you can't use it for pressure washing.
Bottom line, Pocket Hose can't replace your traditional hose for everything, but it does work. On a scale of 1 to 4, our tester gave it a 2.5 to 3.

2nd time we used this hose their black shutoff valve broke.  4th time using  my wife got a cold shower from it.  It broke at the fitting.Â
My wife bought me this hose and I was so happy - I was sick of fighting heavy hoses that kinked when i looked at them. However, the SECOND time I turned it on, it didnt just leak - it poured water out from the backside of the cheap plastic connector. This is the cheapest product I have seen in a long time.
I have had 6 of these hoses and had to return them all after just a few uses....they spring leaks that can not be repaired. It is a great concept however they have proven to be undependable! They do not tangle or kink, light weight however the ends are plastic and the lever breaks easily as well. They need to improve the quality of the material used to ensure longer durability. I am going back to a conventional rubber hose on a reel for if it springs a leak it is at least repairable! The ads for this product are way too good to be true and I would definitely discourage anyone from purchasing one of these hoses....you will be greatly disappointed!
This hose is HORRiBLE. I bought two and the plastic levers broke immediately leaving the hoses useless. Luckily I bought them at bed bath and beyond and they refunded the purchase. I called to register a complaint with the company and they would not note it, and tried to sell me another hose. I would not do business or purchase from this company.
One thing they did not mention was the long term durability of it. There have been collapsible hoses before and after a short while the plastic inner liner developed leaks that were unrepairable and kept getting worse till one had to toss the hose.
I bought two of these from bed bath and beyond for 19.99 ea. I will agree that mine also seems to leak a little at the nozzle, ( my nozzle is quite a few years old though) . They actually work pretty well. One problem is that if you drag them through the dirt and mud, they get really stained because the outside is more like a fabric than rubber. They are very light and seem to be quite durable. Not sure about how well they will last since I just got them a couple of weeks ago.But they really do "shrink" down to a very managable size when the water is drained out.It would be ideal for the edlerly or anyone who doesnt want to lug around a heavy hose.I give them a thumbs up!!

Rats. I was REALLY interested in this - apparently too good to be true.
@Howard Beale They spring leaks after just a couple of uses! Not dependable and I discourage anyone from purchasing one....you will be disappointed!
@Howard Beale Jesse Jones & Cisco Morris tested this last summer and gave it a thumbs up.
@jcman @Howard Beale They obviously did not test it long enough!!! This product does not even come close to adhering to their advertising!!
