Scratch-dini: Does it work?

Scratch-dini: Does it work?

No matter how well you take care of your car or truck, it's nearly impossible to keep it from getting scratched. Most of us just complain and move on. But for $10, Scratch-dini promises scratch removal in one easy step.

According to the commercial,  "Just use a little Scratch-dini and literally wipe the scratch away!  It's that simple." You're supposed to rub the solution onto the scratch using direct and even pressure with a soft, clean cloth. Let it set for up to 30 seconds, then wipe and buff the surface with a clean, soft, damp cloth.

Our volunteers tried it with mixed reviews.

"It's smaller, definitely. Or lighter," Richie Pugh said about the scratch on the hood of his blue Mustang.

The finish was definitely shinier, which helped obscure the scratch. Dane Correll also saw a slight improvement. "

Takes it off a little," Correll said, "but not much. But it does help."

In both cases, the scratches, which were relatively light to begin with, were still detectible after applying Scratch-dini.
Bottom line: It appears you get some results if the scratch is very minor. The box refers to "light" scratches. But in our tests, none of the scratches were totally gone in seconds. The minor scratches were simply less visible. With deeper scratches the difference was negligible.  Neither volunteer in our test was overwhelmed, although Correll said he would consider buying Scratch-dini to obscure the lighter, smaller scratches on his black SUV.

"Out of 4 stars, I'd give it a 2,", Correll said.

Pugh, however, was much less generous, giving the product a .5 out of 4.
