Michael was born and raised in Seattle before graduating from Western Washington University in 2008 with a degree in journalism.

Before joining KOMO News in 2010 as a community reporter, Michael worked as a reporter, editor and photographer for the Ballard News-Tribune. He switched to full-time crime reporting in 2013.

Crime Charges: Drunk teen furnishes new apartment with neighbor's stuff
A drunk 19-year-old and a friend broke into his neighbors' home and stole all their furniture in order to furnish his new apartment, according to charges filed Wednesday in Pierce County Superior Court. However, he was reportedly nice enough to leave the victims some of his old furniture, as well as a traffic citation with his name and address on it.
Crime Charges: Man stole $100K of electronics from former employer
Thanks to an internal miscommunication, a former employee was able to use his ID badge to steal more than $100,000 worth of electronics from St. Joseph Hospital and other Franciscan Health System locations over the span of three months, according to charges filed Thursday in Pierce County Superior Court.
