Charges: Man threatened to kill trucker who refused a date with him

FIFE, Wash. -- Don't let the names fool you, love was definitely not in the air when a man named Truelove reportedly first propositioned then threatened to kill a trucker at Love's Truck Stop Sunday in Fife.

According to the charges filed Monday in Pierce County Superior Court, Fife Police Department officers were called to the truck stop in the 1500 block of 33rd Avenue East for reports of a man throwing things around and bothering truck drivers.

The victim, a trucker, flagged officers down when they arrived and told them a man, later identified as 47-year-old Robert Truelove, had propositioned him, asking, "Do you want to go on a date?"

When the victim repeatedly turned down the man's offer, Truelove became angry, removing his shirt, grabbing a large piece of metal and advancing on the victim while threatening to kill him, according to the charging documents.

The victim told officers he ran back to his truck and locked himself inside to avoid being attacked by Truelove.

Officers found and arrested Truelove nearby. He reportedly denied any wrongdoing.

Truelove has been charged with assault and felony harassment and is barred from returning to the truck stop.
