Owner of child pornography, pedophilia manual sentenced to prison

AUBURN, Wash. -- A 39-year-old Auburn man who owned more than 3,000 images and videos of children being raped and molested, as well as a 170-page manual on how to groom children for sexual abuse, was sentenced to seven years in prison Tuesday.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Hank Hirst had more than 2,700 images and 447 videos of child pornography. He also  had videos he took from his window of children playing in the neighborhood, a step detailed in the pedophilia manual found in his home.

Hirst, who lived less than a block from an elementary school, came to the attention of law enforcement when he emailed a video of a child being raped to a man in Ohio. He was arrested in June 2013 and pleaded guilty to distribution of child pornography in February.

In addition to seven years in prison, Hirst was sentenced to 25 years of supervised release and will be required to register as a sex offender.
