Police: Armed man found dead in Bellevue park

BELLEVUE, Wash. -- On Friday morning, after nine hours of searching, officers found the man they believe likely shot at police dead in Wilburton Hill Park.

The Bellevue Police Department received a report of a suicidal man in the 105-acre park near the Bellevue Botanical Garden after a neighbor heard shots around 11:30 p.m. Thursday.

While officers were searching the area, another shot was fired, and at least one officer believed someone was shooting at them, according to police.

Multiple agencies began searching for the reported suicidal man in the heavily wooded park with the help of a helicopter equipped with infrared.

Around 5:45 a.m. Friday, police advised residents in a 10-block radius around the park to leave the area via 118th Avenue Southeast.

Approximately three hours later, an armed man was found dead in the park.
