Police: Polite thief wishes victim a nice day while stealing her phone

SEATTLE -- A man suspected of stealing a woman's cellphone had the whole gentleman thief thing down right up until he ruined it by reportedly punching the victim in the face.

According to the Seattle Police Department's report for the incident, the victim was walking with her cellphone in her hand on 23rd Avenue near Garfield High School around 4 p.m. Saturday when she heard someone running up behind her.

She turned around to find a man jogging near hear. The man asked the victim, "How are you?" and she replied, "Fine, thanks."

According to the report, the man then told the victim to have a nice day right before grabbing the phone out of her hand and running off.

The victim chased after the man, catching up with him after a short distance and grabbing his jacket. But, the man punched the victim in the face and escaped with her phone, according to the report.

The victim waited approximately half an hour before reporting the robbery, and officers were unable to find the man.
