Police: Seattle man hospitalized after being attacked by burglar

SEATTLE -- A Rainier Beach resident was hospitalized with facial injuries after being attacked by a burglar his wife found rustling around their bedroom Monday afternoon, according to the Seattle Police Department.

According to the police report for the incident, a woman heard noises coming from her upstairs bedroom in the 9200 block of Ithaca Place South shortly after 4:30 p.m. When she went to investigate, she reportedly found a stranger holding her purse.

The woman was able to grab the purse away from the intruder, but he kept possession of her billfold and ran off down the hallway, grabbing a piggy bank containing $400 on his way, according to the report.

The woman's husband confronted the man and was hit multiple times.

According to the report, the burglar ran off and officers arriving five minutes later were unable to find him.

The victim suffered heavy swelling and bruising to his face and required a neck brace while being transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.
