BELLEVUE, Wash. -- The 21-year-old man who escaped police custody outside the Bellevue Courthouse while still in shackles last month was arrested in Renton at noon Friday, according to the Bellevue Police Department.

Downs was being transported from the King County Jail to the Bellevue District Court for a suspended vehicle license court date Jan. 31 when he escaped, despite wearing wrist and ankle restraints and no shoes, according to police.

Downs reportedly got into a waiting getaway car, and the officer guarding downs was unable to pursue because the officer had to stay with the two remaining prisoners. An exhaustive search was done in the area but Downs was not located.

Police say Downs was being held on several charges including Theft, Robbery and Organized Retail Theft. He now faces additional counts including felony escape.

Downs was being taken to the Bellevue jail for processing, then booked into the King County Jail.

Tanjanique Hills, Downs' girlfriend who was suspected of helping him escape, was arrested on Feb. 19 on her own felony warrant and has since been released after posting bail.
