Schools locked down as deputies look for suspected car thief

GRANITE FALLS, Wash. -- Several Granite Falls schools were locked down for several hours Monday morning as Snohomish County Sheriff's Office deputies searched for a suspected car thief who last seen nearby.

According to the Sheriff's Office, a car with no license plates was reported driving erratically in Snohomish around 8:45 a.m. and deputies followed it to Granite Falls.

The driver of the car, which had been reported stolen in King County, abandoned it near Mountain Way Elementary School, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The Granite Falls School District put that school and several others in lockdown as a precaution while deputies searched for the suspect.

The Sheriff's Department announced it had arrested the suspect shortly before 11 a.m., lifting the lockdowns.
