Victim says he was attacked for being gay at Olympia nightclub

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- The Olympia Police Department is investigating a potential hate crime after a 32-year-old man reported being punched in the face for being gay in a downtown nightclub earlier this month.

According to Olympia/Thurston County Crime Stoppers, the victim was at Jake's on 4th in the early morning of April 5 when a man called him a slur and punched him in the face while yelling homophobic remarks.

The victim told officers he believes he was attacked specifically because of his sexual orientation.

According to Crime Stoppers, the victim described his attacker as an approximately 5-foot-tall black man who he believes is in the military.

Police are continuing to investigate.
