SEATTLE - Retail giants Amazon and Macy's announced plans to hire thousands of workers for the upcoming holiday season.
Amazon.com, Inc. is looking to bring more than 70,000 full-time seasonal employees to its fulfillment centers across the U.S. These seasonal workers will help meet an increase in orders placed online during the busy holiday months. Just like last year, the company says some of these jobs have the potential to turn into regular, full-time roles after the holidays.
"So far this year, we have converted more than 7,000 temporary employees in the U.S. into full-time, regular roles and we're looking forward to converting thousands more after this holiday season," said Dave Clark, Amazon's vice president of worldwide operations and customer service, in a statement to the media.

Macy's plans to hire nearly 83,000 seasonal employees at its Macy's and Bloomingdale's stores across the country. Of those, 2,300 will be hired in Washington state.
Seasonal work at the department store includes: in-store sales, operations and customer service in call centers and fulfillment centers for online purchasing.
Seasonal positions at Macy's are mostly part-time and will require applicants to work evenings, weekends or overnight. Macy's says some temporary seasonal associates can move into full-time, year-round positions depending on performance during the holiday season.
