Tommy Bahama named first tenant in new SLU development

SEATTLE -- Tommy Bahama is moving its Seattle-based headquarters to become the first tenant of 400 Fairview, South Lake Union's newest commercial development scheduled to break ground Wednesday.

Skanska says the commercial development will be the first to break ground in South Lake Union since the Seattle City Council passed rezoning regulations in the neighborhood last spring. Under the rezone, height limits for some areas in SLU increased to 160 feet, and that's how high Skanska's new 13-story tower will stand.

Located on Fairview Avenue between Harrison and Republican streets, 400 Fairview will feature 320,000 square feet of office space with the ground floor focused on attracting smaller local retailers in an open market-style setting.

Tommy Bahama plans to move from its current headquarters on Westlake to 400 Fairview by 2015 when the development is scheduled to be completed.

Skanska worked with SkB Architects to design 400 Fairview, focusing on flexible open floor plans with lots of daylight and sweeping views of the city, the water and the Olympics.

The commercial developer is currently working to finish Stone34, the new headquarters for Brooks Sports in Fremont, which is scheduled to open next year. Skanska is also getting ready to break ground on Alley 111, a 260-unit mixed-use project in downtown Bellevue.
