THURSTON COUNTY, Wash. -- Thurston County is the latest jurisdiction to ban the use of plastic bags at local grocery and retail stores.

On Tuesday, the Thurston County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to ban the bags in all unincorporated areas of the county.

According to the Olympian, the commissioners approved the same ban passed in Tumwater last week.

The ban will take effect July 1.

The Olympian reports the City of Olympia is expected to consider its own plastic bag ban next month.
