OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - Republican Alan Martin and Democratic Rep. Jim McIntire have advanced to the general election in the race for Washington state treasurer.
With 15 percent of Tuesday's expected primary vote counted, Martin had nearly 44 percent of the vote and McIntire had about 41 percent.
Both are vying to replace Treasurer Mike Murphy, who is stepping down after three terms. He crossed party lines to endorse Martin, who is assistant treasurer.
McIntire is chairman of the state economic forecast panel and former House Finance Committee chairman.
Both McIntire and Martin edged out Democrat ChangMook Sohn, who was the state's chief economist for more than two decades. Sohn had nearly 16 percent of the vote in early returns.
