Bon Jovi's daughter charged after heroin overdose

CLINTON, N.Y. (AP) — Jon Bon Jovi's 19-year-old daughter was hospitalized and facing drug charges Wednesday after overdosing on heroin in a dorm at her college in upstate New York, authorities said.
Stephanie Bongiovi was found unresponsive by an ambulance crew sent to Hamilton College early Wednesday after a report that a female had apparently overdosed in Dunham Hall, the school's largest dorm.
Town of Kirkland police investigator Peter Cania said Bongiovi, of Red Bank, N.J., was recovering at a hospital he declined to name.
Officers sent to the dorm initially found a small amount of heroin and arrested Ian Grant, 21, also of Red Bank and a Hamilton student, according to police reports.
Investigators got a search warrant for the dorm and found heroin, marijuana and drug paraphernalia, leading to Bongiovi's arrest. Cania would not say whether the search involved her room.
Police didn't know whether Bongiovi or Grant have lawyers. Jon Bon Jovi's representative wasn't commenting Wednesday.
Bongiovi and Grant were each charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor. Bongiovi was also charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana and criminally using drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.
Both were issued tickets and ordered to appear in court at a later date.
Bon Jovi, 50, is scheduled to perform at a concert to benefit Hamilton's scholarships and arts programs in Times Square on Dec. 5.
He has four children, Stephanie and three sons.

Beware of the needle.
Sad that she has everything in front of her but makes this bad choice
Â
I am sure she has lived the wild life through her father and seen things I didn't see at her early age.
Â
hope she sticks with the weed (good) and ditches the heroin (bad)
Â
how many seattle musicians have been laid 6 feet down due to heroin? Â Here's an article that was written in 1994 on that subject

Oops...
I hope she gets the help she needs. I'm sure her parents will be all over this.
I don't think that people realize the strength that heroin has on a person, once it grasps you that's it you have found your knew love for life.
There is nothing in this world that can come between a mother and child bond, except for drugs....and it is sad very sad to see children's lives being destroyed because of addiction.....
Children will remember their parent choosing the drugs over them same with alcohol It's a life long memory that hurts and alot of children that had addicted parents will end up at some point using as well.
I pray that this young lady gets into recovery real fast she has her whole life ahead of her!!
Â
19 & aleady turning to heroin? There's usually a pretty darn good reason for that, & you can usually point your fingers in the direction of the parents. Not always of course, but that's the first place I'd be looking for answers.
I am wondering why you are pointing fingers at the parents. I am sorry but it is the people she decided to hang with in school. It was her choice. It was not her parents saying go ahead honey and give this a try for your pain. give me a break
Â
She is cute as hell, damn shame she is using drugs
Looks like Bieber.

@deadcandance this too is my families story. We lost my baby sis with 5 children to this drug 8 years ago. She loved her children, and her family very much. She just met the wrong guy who introduced her to this drug.  He died first because 4 neighborhood teens decided to beat him to death while he was showering for his drugs. The teens were discovered years later as to who they were and what happened. (This would come to light only  after my sister dies. I think she always felt  the authorities thought she had something to do with his death. Leading her to be a more depressed person.) Then she met guy two with same addiction. Not sure what happened but for some reason the neighbors called police on my sister and she was arressted. She didnt tell them that she had just done her drugs and them some. She died in a cell by herself while the police were supposedly watching her because of her weird behavior. When they found her she was in full cardiac arrest. I have always wondered why she was not taken to the hospital in the first place..... Even if the police would have taken her to the hospital she would have still died. She had become so depressed that she took everything in the medicine cabinet. Time released stuff was already into her system so the typical pumping stomache would not have worked anyways. Guy two killed himself a year later. He never took my calls so all my questions I had for him died with him.. my thoughts are this drug only leads to death, and extreme sadness for families...Best of luck to the Bonjovi family..Â
 @Kuntreegal  @deadcandanceÂ
That's so very sad
and the only thing strong enough to break a mother child bond is "DRUGS"Â please just reassure her children that their mama did love them with all her heart and had she been off of the drugs and in a clear mind she would never ever have left them...
@deadcandance How awful, I am so sorry for what you're going through.  Our family fears getting that call all the time, but as you know it's out of our control.  I'm very sorry your sibling lost their life.

@deadcandance  @Doxie Oh, I'm so sorry.  My 3 brothers all struggle with addiction, ironically the ex-con is doing the best of all of them.  Of course, they all have kids too.  The older ones have followed the same path.  I pray your nieces/nephews will be able to cope and forgive.  And understand there is nothing they could have done.  You as an adult know this, it's a hard lesson to learn.  I watched Undercover Boss last night and an employee confessed he was in recovery and it hit the CEO hard, because his dad died of alcoholism.  His wife told him it made him who he is - kind, charitable, a good husband/father, caring, etc.  I hope the same for the kids.  That would be a huge positive.  Time will tell.  Big love back to you and all who mourn your sister - you know she cannot have been happy with that path but it had more power than she did.
Heroin isn't a drug one just decides to use, she's been around the drug world for a while and its finally caught up to her...
What a bummer. Opiates, and the grotesque crystal meth, are the scurge of society.
Wow, kids mess with some dangerous stuff nowadays. Â Back in our day, people maybe smoked a little pot and drank and that was about it. Â Some kids will put anything into their mouths or veins.
@Doxie We did what we did because it was "normal" in our time...OUR parents would not have smoked weed, it was considered a dangerous drug and there was fear around using it.  Our kids are smoking meth and heroin because it is normalized... other kids in school (middle and high schools) are using harsher drugs, which takes some of the fear away.  Today's world is definitely more dangerous, and all the simple solutions were used long ago.  I wish the best for Stephanie Bon Jovi, addiction is a rough row to hoe... hoping her wealth and privilege brings opportunity for treatment and healing.
@cdc  @Doxie With all due respect meth and heroin are not normalized, and to spread this kind of misinformation is not responsible.  The kids that do it do it for various reasons, and the ones that become addicted become addicted because they are addicts.  And, for an addict, anything is a gateway drug.  They learn at a young age the chemicals can make them feel better whether it's in the form of food, junk food, painkillers, etc.  They watch drug commercials every day, and see people getting a buzz on or drunk ad nauseum (often their parents). If you are a parent of a child like this you do your best to arm them with the information they need to make good decisions, and where to get help, and then you pray.  It's this society that creates addiction these days-- just look around or turn on your television.  Nature loads teh gun, but nurture pulls the trigger and, these days, there seems to be more "nurturing" outside of the home than in it.  Children are assaulted by these messages everywhere they go.  Lastly, because we learned nothing from making alcohol illegal back in the day, we continue to propagate a system where only criminals have access to drugs and we can't control it at all.  If we did, we could use taxes from it to support programs for recovery from addictions to drugs and alcohol. Â
@cdc They're also taking a boatload of pharmaceuticals.  I hope she gets and stays clean too, but she has got a very tough road ahead of her now.
@Doxie I always had a healthy fear of anything beyond pot and liquor.
@NWNative Not anymore.  They take it right out of their parents' medicine cabinets.  Two of my family members are awaiting trial because a kid got into someone's prescription drugs and died.  They do deserve to be punished - but how I wish he had never put that stuff in his mouth.  He was only 16.
What the hell is 7th degree possession? Was she holding it for a friend who was holding it for a friend who was holding it for a friend, etc etc?
It's one up from 6th...
@Mumblix Grumph It is only awarded to Masons.
Holy cow, I didn't even know he has a daughter......I guess he is pretty good at keeping his family out of the public eye....well, until this....
In Washington, if you overdose on a drug (ie heroin), you cannot be charged with a crime when discovered by medics or LE, even with the substance on your person.
Â
7th degree possession....7th degree? Â Kind of weird. Â Anyways...felony in WA to possess heroin.
Her dad was the front man for the cheesiest rock band in history. That's a lot for a young woman to overcome.
That "cheesiest" rock band in history still produces relavent albums and completely sells out arena tours. As for the cheese - Bon Jovi is the best you can come up with? Serious?
Obviously your music industry knowledge is pretty limited...
@Will Jamison With that amount of money, I'll overcome anything.
Ugh Hollywood kids, this is a story that makes me be thankful that I do not have fame and raise my kids in the  Hollywood light. It just seems like if you are a Hollywood star in some way, your divorce and kids are out of control. I guess I know where the family's are that have no respect for themselves.Â
@Just my say Not Hollywood... college in upstate New York.  Different culture, same result.
@Just my say Not really only Hollywood people have kids facing this problem, I'm guessing...
Every parents worst nightmare... praying for her to recover and her family to heal. sad. :(
Won't she receive the Lindsay Lohan Special?
I just don't get it. She has the world by the backside, good looking and smart and then this. Maybe she's not as smart as she should be. What a shame.
@lmdk2 Addiction is a disease of the brain, not of a substance.  It is primarily genetic in nature.  If only ugly stupid people got addiction, we could easily protect our children by ensuring they were beautiful and educated... of course that doesn't work.
@lmdk2 somewhat contrary to what to presume, higher intelligence is linked to higher drug use.  http://thechart.blogs.cnn.com/2011/11/14/high-iq-linked-to-drug-use/   http://bigthink.com/Mind-Matters/studies-creative-people-cheat-smart-people-do-drugs?page=all   http://dangerousminds.net/comments/why_intelligent_people_use_more_drugs
@notatreehugger  @lmdk2 I will send that to my folks.........of course I'm way past this now, but maybe it will make them feel better about my rebellious young adult years......of course at their age they may have forgotten all the rotten things I did.......yeah, on second thought, maybe I should just let bygones be bygones........
I am already now scared to send my kids to college ...
Let's evaluate this: Gorgeous good looks, Super cool, successful dad, nice little exclusive university, upbringing (seemingly) any kid would envy (Hey, my dad's Bon Jovi!) - limitless future to become whatever you want to...
Yep - I'll become a heroin user!
@Throbbinhood That's maybe where the problem lies. All the options you can imagine, but maybe hopelessly lost in there. Plus the pressure to live up to dad's greatness.
@Komo Dragon  @Throbbinhood Or... it is a genetic disease she inherited.
