Country star Randy Travis found naked after crash

DALLAS (AP) - Randy Travis was charged with driving while intoxicated and threatening law officers after the country singer crashed his car and was found naked and combative at the scene, officials said.
It was the second Texas arrest this year for Travis, who was cited in February for public intoxication.
A Pontiac Trans Am registered to Travis, 53, had driven off a road west of Tioga around midnight Tuesday, said Tom Vinger, spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety. The vehicle had struck several barricades in a construction zone, according to DPS.
Vinger said Travis made threats against Texas Highway Patrol troopers and was not wearing clothes at the time of his arrest. He refused sobriety tests, Vinger said, so a blood specimen was taken.
Travis was released on $21,500 bond Wednesday morning pending an appearance before a judge in Sherman, about 60 miles north of Dallas. Blood test results are pending.
Grayson County Sheriff's Sgt. Rickey Wheeler said Travis faces charges of retaliation or obstruction in addition to driving under the influence.
"Travis had a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath and several signs of intoxication," according to a statement from the sheriff's office. "While Travis was being transported, Travis made threats to shoot and kill the troopers working the case."
A Travis representative said there would be no immediate comment on the arrest.
Travis in February was charged with public intoxication after being spotted in a vehicle parked in front of a church in Sanger, about 20 miles from Tioga, where the entertainer lives.
He also has been involved in messy court proceedings with his ex-wife. Travis was divorced from Elizabeth Travis in 2010 after 19 years of marriage.
Earlier this year, Elizabeth Travis, who had been his manager for more than three decades, filed a lawsuit claiming that Randy Travis made it impossible for her to do her job and terminated her management contract without proper notice. She said her ex-husband sent several men, including an armed guard, to clean out her offices.
Randy Travis countersued in May, accusing his ex-wife of divulging confidential information about him in order to damage his reputation and career. The court documents don't say what information Elizabeth Travis is alleged to have betrayed.

I thought he was a religious fella? This may be a good testimony about religious constraint being a negative consequence.
 @ObsidianOne Christians are not perfect, and don't always do what is right. It is impossible to be a "perfect" Christian. We all sin. Religious constraint has nothing to do with this. This is called being human.

Met Randy back at Yokota Air Base mid nineties. He was doing a USO tour with ,who If I remember correctly, was Patty Loveless.

He performed a great concert. As he was leaving on an AF jet I got the moment to converse with him. He was very genuine to say the least. And said thanks for liking our music.

My guy is 9 yrs. younger than me, and we're still diggin each other's company. She was just bad for him from the get-go, it just took 19 yrs. for him to figure it out. Too bad cuz I love Randy.Â
I never met him but from all I ever saw about and from him from years ago, he seemed like a pretty decent guy. But to blame someone else for his failure would be a cop-out, as old as Adam. His problem is alcoholism now. Too bad - very bad in this case, booze addiction has ruined many a person.

It was well hidden from the public eye. Looks to me like he was a victim of domestic violence & was just afraid to speak out, what with the black eyes & all...(kiddin!)

 @Lloyd Christmas  Because he does, he's talented and is a genuinely sincere man with some problems. It's my desire to see him pull himself up by his bootstraps and get cleaned up. Get strong so he can write and sing some more. He does deserve a better life for himself so we greedy guts can hear him play some more. That's why.
 @alexcrowley  @geekboy I'm not a country fan, but I like him too.  I'm from New Mexico and the lived in Santa Fe for a long time and the locals really like them (unlike how they feel about Val Kilmer).  He's always projected a squeaky clean image, this is sad to see, especially since he is only 53!
 @Doxie  @geekboy I don't know the reason why he's hitting the skids, I just want him to stick around longer. He deserves better. Maybe this is part of the reason why his marriage failed, but I like the feller. Hope he gets his shi^e 2gether and doesn't become another stat.

One alcohol related incident is bad enough but two within 6 months combined with anger management issues and otherwise erratic behavior? The guy's a ticking timebomb.

 @alaska_dreamin That guy is just nuts.  He told his girlfriend that if she got raped by a pack of the N-word, it would be her own fault.  He got skewered in the press and rightfully so.  Randy is just coming off as someone who needs compassionate help.
