Elton John welcomes second son
LONDON (AP) - Elton John and David Furnish say they have become parents for a second time.
The couple say they are "overwhelmed with happiness" at the birth of Elijah Joseph Daniel Furnish-John.
John's spokeswoman Fran Curtis confirmed an announcement on the singer's website that the baby was born Friday in Los Angeles. The infant, born to a surrogate mother, weighs 8 pounds, 4 ounces (3.7 kilograms).
John, who is 65, and 50-year-old Furnish wed in a British civil partnership in 2005 and are parents to 2-year-old Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John, born in California in December 2010, also through a surrogate mother.
John told The Guardian newspaper last year that he hoped to have a sibling for Zachary because "it's difficult to be an only child, and to be an only child of someone famous."
John and Furnish told Hello! magazine Wednesday that "the birth of our second son completes our family in a most precious and perfect way."
We have a friend whose parents were in their late 40s when he was born and he felt gypped because he had 'old' parents who didn't have the energy nor desire to do stuff when he was raring to go. Â These guys are even older than that, seems to be a bit selfish to me - just because you can doesn't mean you should. Â Remember Tony Randall, fathering a child with a 27-year-old when he was 77, and then again the next year? Â He's long gone, they never really knew their father.
Really? Maybe your friend should spend a little more time being happy that his parents wanted to have him at all and appreciate what they were able to do with/for him instead of feeling 'gypped' by them.Â
 @that's_my_opinion Several factors most could not relate to.  #1:  His parents had older kids who pretty much out of the house by the time he reached toddler-hood, so he was basically an only child, and his parents just weren't interested in things that little boys are so he felt kind of lonely.  #2.  He was trying to arrange for his parents' elder care (POOF went the elder siblings when that happened) as a 30-something military member stationed OVERSEAS.  #3.  He lost both his parents fairly young, which was very hard.  Not that he wishes he had never been born, just wished it had been under different circumstances, especially as he realized how much they missed out on while he was having the joy of raising his own son.
it's called lesson learned and sharing with others. lying to yourself is not the solution of any problems.
 @Doxie "just because you can doesn't mean you should."  Harsh...
 @IronWafflez Sorry, I don't mean it as harsh but I do think you should consider what is best for the child before you proceed.  How will they feel in the long run?
 @Doxie  @IronWafflez I see both sides. Hopefully Elton and David are in good health and most importantly be great parents. I'm not a fan of gay couples having kids, but I'm not dead set against it either. Elton has kept me pretty entertained over the years so I want to give him the benefit of the doubt. But a healthy discussion here.
 @IronWafflez I sure hope so.
 @Doxie  @IronWafflez I guess you could call it quality vs quantity. So they won't have a long time together. But the time they do have will be good, and then dad #2 will be around, followed by infinite friends and family.
Fat old man won't live to see the child make grade school.

truth hurts. you are not better than anyone simply by telling everyone how insensitive they are. get over yourself.
65 is a bit up there to be adopting. Elton will be in his 80's when the child graduates. I guess money really does buy everything.
