Ex-ABC News veteran Sam Donaldson charged with DUI

LEWES, Del. (AP) - ABC News veteran and former correspondent Sam Donaldson is facing a drunken driving charge in Delaware.
Police in the southern coastal town of Lewes say the 78-year-old Donaldson was stopped Dec. 1 for a traffic violation. Police say the officer determined Donaldson had been drinking and gave him field sobriety tests.
Donaldson was arrested and later released. An arraignment is set for Friday.
A phone call to Donaldson's home in McLean, Va., on Wednesday was not immediately returned. McLean is about 110 miles west of Lewes.
Donaldson was twice chief White House correspondent for ABC News, covering Presidents Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton. He also co-hosted "PrimeTime Live" with Diane Sawyer and the ABC News Sunday morning broadcast "This Week with Sam Donaldson and Cokie Roberts."

Cut him some slack? Most of us have at least once driven when we should not have? I'm a little amazed at these comments. Caveat: they didn't report what his BAC reading was. But, especially if it was considerably over the minimum, he could have killed innocent people by driving drunk! And, in today's world, there are personal breathalyzers that he could have on hand that don't cost a fortune, though he could afford a deluxe version! Thankfully, nobody was injured or killed as a result of his poor lack of judgment. I will agree with the second comment, but that doesn't make Donaldson's behavior alright. Many folks still drive with cell phone up against their ears, while others still text and drive. If nobody gets hurt as a result, that doesn't make it okay IMO.
Sam is human? Go figure. Cut him some slack, we all screw up.Â
Â
His mental illness of being a liberal has to be taken into consideration. This on his resume is a plus.Â
@pbs7mm The liberal mental illness BS isn't funny or original. On the other hand conservatives are well known for being hypocrites and liars.Â
He was doing shots with Diane Sawyer.

Â
To Re Cap, I lived in the same Condo as him in McLean ,VA, I was 12, I saw him get off the elevator and said "Oh Wow, your Sam Donaldson"!!!!!!! He told me to get away from him and that I was bothering him.....
Â
Typical Democrat Cocktail party Doucebag...............
When your 78, you don't give a crap what people say about how you look!
Didn't realize it until now, but he is downright FREIGHTENING looking up close - drunk OR sober...
He couldn't see where he was driving, his eyebrows were in the way
I bet ABC News will not put this one on the news.
ahhhh...That hurts!
I thought he was smarter than that.
Sam,
Â
Your brother Spock finds your behavior illogical.
DOH!!! Â Time to trim the eyebrows Donald.
