Jermaine Jackson petitions to alter famous name

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Jermaine Jackson wants to change his name to something a little brighter. He's asking a court to allow him to alter his famous surname and become Jermaine Jacksun.
The older brother of Michael Jackson filed a name change petition on Tuesday in Los Angeles, stating the switch was for "artistic reasons."
The filing doesn't elaborate, but Jackson's friend Steve Dennis, who was speaking on the singer's behalf, said it's not unheard of for artists to change their names. "Phonetically, it changes nothing," he said.
"It is something he has chosen to do, and it's fair to say that you cannot blame this one on the boogie, you've got to blame it on the sunshine," Dennis said, in a play on the Jackson 5 disco hit, "Blame it on the Boogie."
Jackson has been touring with his brothers in recent months and has been promoting his book about his superstar brother titled "You Are Not Alone."
A hearing on whether Jackson will become Jacksun is scheduled for Feb. 22 in Los Angeles.

Too bad he doesn't live in Washington state. He could change his name as often as he wanted and never involve any courts.
Frank Zappa named his son Dweezil and one of his daughters Moon Unit; I say go for it.
@northwestsurfer Actually, Frank Zappa named his son Ian Donald Calvin Euclid Zappa. The hospital where he was born wouldn't let him name his son Dweezil. He had it legally changed when he was 5. (Ian, Donald, Calvin, Euclid were friends and band members.)
@Ulf I already knew this. For the sake of simplicity, I only included the name dweezle
@northwestsurfer I just thought it bore mentioning since he had the name legally changed to Dweezil. It seemed relevant to the story. :-)
@northwestsurfer Heh. I'll be hanging out with Dweezil when he rolls through on tour.
He should change his son's name while he's at it too. Â Jermajesty? Â Goodness. Â I met a kid whose parents named her ABCDE. Â It's just mean to do that to little kids.
How bout you change it to "The no talent leech riding the coattails of the TALENTED one's fame?" It would be more fitting, AND honest.
@Wolfen Wow dude, whats up with the vitriole? He has talent, he was in a band with all of his brothers; you might have heard of them - the Jackson 5? He has been recording since those days; maybe not with as much success as MJ, but he still has.
