Singer Michelle Shocked makes anti-gay slur

It just seems like a lot of people are Hating God, beacuse to many of us may be using His words to hurt others rather than inspire others, rather than to love others.  Think about this, are you using Gods word to condem, judge and hurt, or to love, help and show kindess, patience and understanding?  What do we think God would want us to do?  You decide, just take the message to  your heart, pray on it, and let God be the judge.

God did not give us His, word, love, commandments, judgments, etc in the Holy Bible to use as judgment and hatred towards each other.  He gave it to us to show His love, patience, kindness, and inspire us to do good, to help each other, love each other, tolerate each other, and let Him worry about each others sins, and wrong doings and let Him sit in judgment.  We are not to condone the wrong act, but we are not to judge it eith3er, we are to love they person not the act.  Quit judging everyone.

So as you can see, you are loved by God!God may not love your sin, but He loves you!Those who judge you will be judged for what you were judged for as if they did the act themselves.It is for God to judge not man.It is man’s job to love everyone as Christ would!We can be tolerant of each other, and love each other without judging or condoning what we may believe to be a sin.If we live our lives and believe that homosexuality is a sin and prefer not to perform that act, than that is what we do.However if our neighbor chooses to live in homosexuality, it is for God to judge and not us.It is us that is supposed to still love thy neighbor, either way as Christ loves.We may not agree with this “sin” but we still love the person, just as God loves the person, but not the “sin.”God will make the judgment if it is a sin for this person, not us.Until judgment, love everyone as Christ would, live your life as you believe God wishes you to.

Nothing can separate us from God’s love

Gods Judgment of Sin

@relatively @tampadawg @sometimesright No one's rights of free speech were infringed here--Michelle has it, as do people who ciriticize her.  The only entity that can infringe on your First Amendment rights  is the government.   

If you say something your boss doesn't like, he can fire you.  The right to free speech doesn't exist in that case. The promoter has every right to fire Michelle or end her concert if he doesn't like what  she says--ask any Las Vegas comedian who made the mistake of making fun of gambling at a casino he was working at.

@tampadawg @sometimesright So your answer to sometimesright's question is that metaphorically, Shocked did pick someone's pocket, by advocating a policy that would hurt them financially, and therefore what she said should not fall under the protection of free speech. Should that sort of restriction also apply to people who advocate raising taxes?

@sometimesright The Constitution and the Supreme Court has said that the right to marry is a fundamental right--the Constitution also states that no one religion will be established (which includes its inherent dogma and doctrine) that affects citizens.  Those who claim that gay marriage and rights are prevented by God's law are entitled to follow that law, but they may not prevent others from exercising those rights.  

Since our society and government rewards married couples with many, many privileges in the form of tax breaks, dependent care, insurance, etc., etc., those who would deny gays from participating in marriage are preventing them from taking advantage of those very privileges afforded straight couples.

On the flip side, marriage protects individuals in the case of divorce or abandonment--alimony, child support, etc.  Partners in a gay relationship are not entitled to that (in states where gay marriage is prohibited)--a child adopted by a gay parent could essentially end up with nothing if one member decides to leave.

So the rights and privileges that straight people take for granted are effectively denied to gays, and that's downright un-American.  These aren't "special rights"--that's just a convenient catch phrase used by people who haven't really thought it out.

Young people of all religious and political stripes are starting to figure out the basic common sense of what I've stated above, and the ideas of people like Michelle Shocked will eventually be consigned to the dustbin of history along with the pro-segregation and pro-slavery voices of the past.

@Elaine2 I just go by how the Bible always refers to God as "he" and Jesus refers to God as "Father".  You do make some good points though. While I don't agree with Alexandra Shepiro who thinks the language in the Bible indicates God is a woman...God could very well be genderless due to the fact that He's a spirit, but I will still refer to God as "him", cause I'd rather call him that than "it".

One thing I've always found interesting is how it was a woman who discovered the empty tomb after Jesus was resurrected, and she was the first one to see him alive and tell everyone about it. Now obviously unbelievers and skeptics will tell you that the stories in the New Testament were just made up by people who were trying to start a new religion, and convince the masses that a bunch of lies were true. However, if these people really were trying to make up an untrue story to convince people with, they would have never used a woman as the one who first saw the resurrected Jesus. They would have certainly used a man in the story, because most people back then would not take an account told by a woman seriously. The fact that it's a woman instead of a man who first sees Jesus, makes the story all the more real to me and less like something someone just made up to convince people with.

@Silver_Shot -  I read the Word, have for years.  I believe it and I call God He just because that's what I already know.  The Bible was written in a time when women were considered nothing. Jesus shocked a lot of people by even talking to women and allowing women to do things for him that were totally shocking - that's all in the Word - but Jesus obviously cared more for the women that he was talking to then what society thought.  Therefore, God believes women are worth something. I believe Jesus came here as a man, because who the heck would have listened to a woman at all in those times, many didn't even though he appeared as a man.  But nowhere that I've found in the Word clearly states that God is a man or a woman.  No question was ever posed and maybe that's why we don't see an answer.

@Gaikokujin -  I read the Word and I haven't found that it states clearly that God is male.  It says He in most versions, but I have not found a clear statement that God is a He.  If you have the verse, please share. 

@Alexandra Shepiro Funny how you get upset that I would dare to use an ancient book to get a description of God...when you are actually the one who brought the Bible into this in the first place when you made the claim that it's silent on God's gender. If you could care less what the Bible says about God, than why try to use it in your argument that God is a woman?

@Alexandra Shepiro There's nothing in that article that shows or even suggests that the Bible has referred to God as a female. 

From the article:

1. God is referred to hundreds of times with masculine names and with masculine pronouns such as “he,” “him,” and “his.”

2. God is never given a feminine name, or referred to with feminine pronouns such as “she,” her,” and “hers.”

I still don't know where you see that God referred to himself as a female.

The Bible refers to God as "he" and "him" over and over again. Jesus himself called God "Father".

You can have as much of the kool aid as you like, it's not my particular flavor of reality though. FWIW, the dead sea scrolls were translated, as best as can be done, and are admittadly partial sections of some of the books, not an entire, word for word copy of the modern bible. There is also a lot of question, debate, and controvery about them. Again, not enough to be considered as fact. An earlier copy, maybe but not the single piece of evidence to prove the whole story. Huck Finn was written many years ago but an early edition isn't concrete evidence that Huck was real.

@sometimesright Yeah, I know incest used to be an acceptable practice. I just used it as an example because in today's society, it's a big no-no. There are just hundreds of things animals do that are not  acceptable for humans to do. The whole "it's okay for animals to do it, therefore humans should be able to as well" is such a terrible argument, and I can't believe gay supporters keep using it over and over again.

@Alexandra Shepiro...once again your logic is twisted here.  Is the Bible a book of God to be followed?  If it is not then why are you using it to try and advocate your position?  The Bible clearly states its aversion to homosexuality, over and over again.  You can dislike this, but that will not change what it states.  It is much better to just say that you disagree with the Bible than to try and theologize using it, when what you are advocating is clearly against it.  In fact, that list you put up there from Leviticus could actually be used against your argument.  Not eating shrimp and pork was a health issue 6,000 years ago.  Eating shellfish and pigs could KILL you before refrigeration and proper cooking techniques.  Tatoos were also unsafe prior to penicillin, NOBODY cut themselves on purpose back then because you got infections that quickly put you under.  Do you advocate for lying, arrogance, adultery?  Those are good things?  You see, you putting up that list just inadvertantly tied what you are advocating for with taboos that are rooted in health or immorality that even you would probably agree with.  Once again...USE LOGIC when forming your arguments!

@Silver_Shot...while I agree with your line of reasoning, incest is a bad comparison.  It has gone on throughout history and one might argue successfully.  Cleopatra and almost every monarch in current Europe are offspring of incest in one form or the other.  Cleopatra's parents were brother and sister.  Queen Victoria and Albert were cousins.  Not that I am advocating it, but it is a weak comparison to the animal kingdom.  Canibalism, infanticide and other animalistic enterprises are better.

@Alexandra Shepiro...Thanks for pointing out the God given difference between animals and humans.  This is the problem with debating outside the rules of logic.  While you attempt to advocate for comparing humans to animals, you don't realize that you place your argument within one of two camps.  Either we are animals and should be held to no standard as animals are not, or if we are different and therefore you are just picking and choosing on no logical basis which moral taboo you will allow? Which is it?  If we are the same as animals then should we allow stepdads to kill their stepchildren as lions do?  Should we allow canibalism as gerbils do?  If not, what is your justification for allowing one traditional taboo and not another?

@Alexandra Shepiro That's a very weak argument. Nobody gets on animals for eating their own feces, sniffing each others' butts, killing each other over a mate, or inbreeding with each other either. Animals have no sense of morality, and they can't grasp right or wrong, therefore they are held to much lower standards. 

When a cat mates with its own sibling or offspring...nobody does anything to punish the cat. If a human did that, he or she would be arrested and thrown in prison. Going by the exact same logic you used above, you would have to say: "It's funny how incest is in just about every Animal Species...and its ok..but when its with humans..Its Not! Why don't people crack down on animal incest???"
