Stone Temple Pilots fire singer Scott Weiland

NEW YORK (AP) - The Stone Temple Pilots have fired singer Scott Weiland.
In a one-sentence news release Wednesday, publicist Kymm Britton said: "Stone Temple Pilots have announced they have officially terminated Scott Weiland." No other information was provided.
The Associated Press was attempting to reach Weiland for comment.
The band's 1992 debut, "Core," has sold more than 8 million units in the United States. Their hits include "Vasoline," ''Interstate Love Song" and "Plush," which won a Grammy in 1993 for best hard rock performance with vocal.
Weiland was also in the supergroup Velvet Revolver with Slash and other musicians. The 45-year-old has dealt with drug addiction, run-ins with the law and two failed marriages. He released his memoir, "Not Dead & Not for Sale," in 2011.
The Stone Temple Pilots' latest album is their self-titled 2010 release.

I'm surprised the guy is still alive.Â
Very sad that the addiction over shadows the individuals talents. Marvelous vocals. Too many greats have fallen from the same habits. I might be considered over the hill from the generation who would call Scott, one of their own. But as a music lover, I continue to reconize those who are gifted. I have lived through the loss of Janis, Jimi, and Jim. The absense of those voices, never stops wondering what might have been. Hopefully this young man will get the help he needs. Again, a marvelous voice in rock music. Hopefully we haven't heard the last.
LOLÂ Earth to STP, it's not STP without Weiland.
STP fires Weiland... AGAIN. And for the same reason as the first time: he's a junkie more interested in getting high than making music. If this damned fool doesn't figure it out soon, he's gonna end up like Layne Staley from Alice In Chains... a two week old OD'd corpse before anyone thinks to check on him.
@svensson Well on his way. Perhaps by the weekend?
@Throbbinhood @svensson Let me check how many squares are left on the bar pool...
Its too bad, I was a teenager when this band came out, and some of the best years of my life (1994- 1995) I spent listening to them. Interstate Love Song came out when I turned 18 and graduated high school in Arizona in 1994, this band was one of my favorites, too bad they and Scott fell apart.
Unless this is going to affect my CD's that I already own, Who cares? STP has been dead for awhile now.
@DarkParty How true.
So, a washed up band fires their even more washed up lead singer? in other news....
I have always loved listening to STP and Velvet Revolver because of him.Â
Man, I hope Scott can stay alive.  He's a talented and troubled guy.
Staying alive - that is definitely the key with Scott Weiland. He's in a very dangerous place right now.
I always thought the STP's got a bad rap from critics. That being said, it's twenty years on now since "Core." "Firing" is more akin to a forced retirement at this point.
What a waste of talent! I love their music and he is so charismatic when he performs. I hope he gets the help he needs and maybe in time reunite with the band.Â
Scott's 45 years old and still messed up on drugs. What a Shame. I loved these guys in the 90's.
@Seahawker Anyone who grew up or was a teenager during the 90s will probably agree that it was the best decade for music. Everything now sucks balls.
@northwestsurfer The 90's? They couldn't hold a candle to the 60's for pure experimentation, or the 70's minus disco.Â
@northwestsurfer @Seahawker Well, not *every*thing. There's still some decent music out there, you just have to get past all the cookie-cutter American Oddball crap to find it.
