Thousands sign US petition to deport Piers Morgan

LONDON (AP) - Tens of thousands of people have signed a petition calling for British CNN host Piers Morgan to be deported from the U.S. over his gun control views.
Morgan has taken an aggressive stand for tighter U.S. gun laws in the wake of the Newtown, Connecticut, school shooting. Last week, he called a gun advocate appearing on his "Piers Morgan Tonight" show an "unbelievably stupid man."
Now, gun rights activists are fighting back. A petition created Dec. 21 on the White House e-petition website by a user in Texas accuses Morgan of engaging in a "hostile attack against the U.S. Constitution" by targeting the Second Amendment. It demands he be deported immediately for "exploiting his position as a national network television host to stage attacks against the rights of American citizens."
The petition has already hit the 25,000 signature threshold to get a White House response. By Monday, it had 31,813 signatures.
Morgan seemed unfazed - and even amused - by the movement.
In a series of Twitter messages, he alternately urged his followers to sign the petition and in response to one article about the petition said "bring it on" as he appeared to track the petition's progress.
"If I do get deported from America for wanting fewer gun murders, are there any other countries that will have me?" he wrote.

This is what this country has come to; we don't like what you're telling us so get out. Sounds like the Third Reich or the Soviet Empire, definitely not something built on the democracy and the first amendment
I didn't particularly like Mr. Morgan until now. Good on him for pointing out the obvious.
Who gets covered by the US Constitution might not matter much here. We know that is pretty ambiguous anyway. Sounds like Mr. Morgan has worn out his welcome in the eyes of many and they're calling for him to be gone from the USA just because he's disagreeable.
With all dues respect, or without, that dude WAS unbelievably stupid
So they are saying no one can voice a opinion on TV against the second amendment but they want to block the first amendment in the name of gun laws.. haha.. this is too funny....
Â
Taking guns from legal owners is not going to happen...I do support them making sure the people who can get them have no conditions that make them at risk for being some gun carrying psycho...but still that does nothing for the people who steal a gun from a responsible owner and use it in a crime...granted gun owners as one myself I take full precautions to ensure my guns are sealed away in a safe so they are not easily accessible to a thief if one breaks into my place ... taking guns away from legal owners will just mean more bad guys have guns than the rest of us sane people... to me that is a wash!

@hwystar71 As much as I would like to say that it's hard to believe there are that many stupid people in the US, I guess I shouldn't be suprised. After all, the same idiots voted Bush into office...twice. You do realize that all you're doing is increasing his ratings? No one is going to deport him for being rude to a guest. It's his show, he can say whatever he wants. Now, he's laughing all the way to the bank. Good job!
You know what? You"re right...I am just trying to rankle all of the highly
educated un-employed liberal politcal science majors that feel the need
to post ridiculously long diatribes calling all us wing nuts morons.

It humours me mate.               PRO DEO ET PATRIA   Â

@hwystar71 Oh, so you're just a troll. In that case, carry on.

@JeepRex  You know what's funny? JeepRex doesn't even know basic American history. We kicked their asses twice dude. We had this thing called the War of 1812.
@lakeview Actually I do, but since you wanted to make yourself look all big on the internet by being the history Nazi..... Congrats to you.
@JeepRex We? Were you personally involved ? What are you like 300 years old LOL
I also wanted to add something else. I believe that trying to deport this man for voicing his opinion is, by definition, anti-American. The constitution means more than just government and laws. It defines who we are as a people. We as Americans celebrate our unique freedoms. I, for one, am anti-gun. There, I said it. However, I believe that the fundamental rights that define us as a people are more important than that. I do NOT believe the 2nd amendment should be abolished, and I believe trying to eliminate that right, however much I believe in my stance on firearms, is an attack on American freedom and who we are as a people. That is one of the primary rights that defines us as a free nation. I think it may be one of the most idiotic phrases I've ever heard uttered, but to be honest, I think it applies here: If you don't like it, you can leave. That doesn't mean we don't care about what our people think, it means that this country is defined by its fundamental rights. It would be a travesty to change them. It is our culture. It is who we are. Simply put, if the American lifestyle isn't for you, THAT'S FINE, but you might be better served living elsewhere.Â
Â
The same holds true for the 1st amendment. Picking and choosing who gets our amazing freedoms based on legal technicalities is completely missing the point of being an American. We are the LAND of the free. We celebrate freedom for those who live here in our land, citizen or not. To say that one man who lives in these lands and celebrates the first amendment every day of his life as A CAREER should be given the boot for exercising that right is just about as un-American as it gets. The WHOLE POINT of this wonderful freedom is that the people of this land have the RIGHT to declare what they like or dislike. You can say what you want about the Occupy movement, but their protests are a thousand times more American by principle than having a blind sense of nationalism and accepting whatever our government does. Patriotism is admirable, but trying to silence the voice of someone living in these lands is UN-AMERICAN.Â
Â
Argue the legal technicalities all you want. I believe America stands for something much MORE than that, and my cynical attitude about many aspects of our country is the very thing that gives me great pride in being an American. This country is about more than what's allowed, it is about the fundamental PRINCIPLES of FREEDOM behind it.Â
@jowsuf You could shout that from the highest place and some might just consider you a better target for it. Can't win for losing.
As can be expected, we have shifted the focus to our personal desire to feel tough and ready for action away from the problem of little kids being shot in the face by a disturbed person who has access to weapons that have no rational reason to be in his home other than "His mother likes guns."Â
Â
There's a problem folks and it isn't Piers Morgan!!
Since when did the 2nd amendment override the 1st amendment? People who go for this kind of thing are the people giving gun rights activists a bad name.Â
Â
For the record I think we can all agree Piers Morgan is just obnoxious, though.
Thomas Jefferson was a gun fanatic. His take on the constitution? A quote he wrote stated: "Laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths discovered and manners and opinions change, with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also to keep pace with the times".
@skepticaloptimist  And in those days guns fired once every minute or so and the bullets (if you can call them that) bounced off people at more than 20 feet.Â
Â
1. Liberalism = mental illness
2. Nominate Piers Morgan 2012 Darwin award winner, what a tard.
@Luke0walton Too bad for Piers, you won!!! Congrats tool!! Wooohoooo!!
@Luke0walton Congratulations. You posted the most asinine and over used useless drivel of the morning.
@Luke0walton "Liberalism = mental illness", that is not what the peer reviewed research states.
@thebigteacher  @Luke0walton Higher levels of cognitive development can appear to be like mental illness to those of lower cognitive development. You cannot understand what you cannot literally see.
I say we make him an honorary citizen. We need more sane people like him who are not afraid to speak the truth.
This simply continues to show the ignorance of gun lovers... this guy makes a sane comment and the gun nuts want to persecute him... these gun lovers are such total idiots.
Talk radio host Michael Savage is considering legal action against Britainâs top homeland security official after she released today a list grouping him with terrorists and neo-Nazi murderers banned from entry because the government believes their views might provoke violence.
In a telephone interview with WND, Savage said he is still waiting to hear back from attorneys, but he noted Britain has very strict anti-defamation laws.
Home Secretary Jacqui Smith said she decided to publicize the list of 16 people banned since October to show the type of behavior Britain will not tolerate, according to U.K. news reports.
Â
this is why we need to have our constitution and every right it affords us..

@vadersith You mean like yelling "fire" in a crowded theater? Michael Savage is about the closest thing to a terrorist we have in white America...
That's right, wingnuts. Let's deport anyone who doesn't agree with our parochial, antiquated views and our violent way of life.
Ah yes. You can say anything you want as long as I agree with it! Sorry guys and gals. I didn't hear nor have I read Mr Morgan's rant and quite frankly that is not the point. You second amendment people need to realize there is another amendment involved here. The FIRST AMENDMENT. Yes it came first! And it guarantees that anyone, white, black, gay, straight, natural born or naturalized citizen, legal or illegal alien, has the right to voice his or her opinion without fear of our government, or fanatics, taking any action against them. Go ahead. Sign the petition if you want. (After all you do have the right to express your opinion.) But if you do it just shows your real lack of understanding what our Constitution means and stands for.
Thanks for the enlightenment. I guess I had mistakenly thought that the rights guaranteed by the US Constitution were for American citizens, not ex-patriots from Great Britain or any other country.
@johnbe And it guarantees that ANYONE, it doesn't STATE THEY HAVE TO BE AMERICAN
I have no problem with what Mr. Morgan says. I see him only as being a representing voice of his employer CNN. I'm pleased to say that I don't "vehemently disagree" with him as I really don't care what his stand on gun control is. I can understand people wanting to deport him, as I'm sure many of those people didn't like him in the first place. To me he's just another voice of the media.
@johnbe: One last shot across your bow. Again, you can vehemently disagree with Mr. Morgan, but there's nothing you can do about it. The First Amendment says in part, "Congress shall make no law respecting ... or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; ... " So Mr. Morgan has broken no laws. The "guarnatees" that you speak of are in the fact that no laws can be made and therefore no punishments can be meted out for any violations.
@johnbe: Here's another example of our Constitution applying to everyone. Say Mr. Morgan was accused of murdering someone. He went to trial and found not guilty. Our Constitution says that you cannot be tried for the same crime twice. Our famous Double Jeopardy clause. Even though Mr. Morgan is not a US citizen he cannot be tried again no matter if he later admitted it, told how he did it in great detail, and produced the murder weapon. (Re: O.J. Simpson.)
@johnbe: You seem to forget that all the laws, rules, and regulations of our fine nation apply to everyone not just it's citizens. If I get caught driving drunk, or a U.S. Senator gets caught driving drunk, or some European celebrity gets caught driving drunk, we all get prosecuted under the same laws. We all have the same protections guaranteed by our Constitution. While you can be be p/oed at what Morgan said just remember our laws cover everyone. Oh, and remember, it is a two way street. When you travel to Europe or Asia, their laws are the ones enforced, not ours. (Just remember the legal travesty of a UW student charged with murder in Italy.!)
The US Constitutions text begins with "We the people of the United States". I wonder what that means anyway? I'll take a guess. It means "We the people of the United States". I read no guarantees extended to anyone of any other country.
since when does being"offensive" serve to be deported or expatriated? Piers would be in line behind a whole lot of politicians, talk show hosts and comedians! No wonder he's smiling. The guy is not stupid. My guess is that he said it on purpose, expecting the response it received from gun advocates while knowing it would increase his ratings.Â
Were that many people NOT listening when Obama said this was the fourth time in his presidency he'd had to provide solace to the families of victims to gun violence? The Connecticut massacre was not an isolated case. The cause is more complex than simply than access to guns and stricter gun control by itself won't be the "silver bullet".  A number of social issues also come into play. The tough question isn't going to be gun control. The difficult hurdle will be understanding who the "bad guys" are, why they are bad and keeping guns out of their hands.
We also need to keep in mind, the world is watching. The  majority of the developed world have far stricter gun controls and far less gun violence. The question they are asking is how many more innocent lives will be paying the price for the freedom to bear assault rifles?
An incredibly stupid gun freak. Who would have thought?
bollocks
Hahaha! You people are showing him, aren't you? Have you ever heard: "any publicity is good publicity"? Watch his rating soar, and you all know there's no way he is going to be deported for being rude to a guest. Good move gun owners! He's laughing all the way to the bank!
Sure, it makes sense.... Someone living and working in the United States disagrees with half the country (maybe less). The natural solution is to deport him.Â
Â
Naturally.Â
Â
I mean really, the only reason such a call wasn't made against Bob Costas, or Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim, or CNN's Don Lemon, or half a million other people who have spoken out for stricter gun control is because they were born here and, to be honest, you wouldn't know where to deport them to.
Â
I suppose it's a better alternative than what COULD HAVE been a rallying cry, given the number of armed opponents out there...
I surely wish that we had the same national pride we had 50 years ago. Guests in this country like Piers Morgan, feel they can say and do anything they want at the expense and emotions of the American people. Yes, he should be deported along with other "guests" that feel the need to criticize how we live and what we do. Its our country, not his or anyone elses.
@Busyhands YOU NEED TO REVIEW THE FIRST AMENDMENT, AGAIN
 @Busyhands
Â
CONGRESS SHALL MAKE NO LAW RESPECTING AN ESTABLISHMENT OF RELIGION, OR PROHIBITING THE FREE EXERCISE THEREOF; OR ABRIDGING THE FREEDOM OF SPEECH, OR OF THE PRESS; OR THE RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE PEACEABLY TO ASSEMBLE, AND TO PETITION THE GOVERNMENT FOR A REDRESS OF GRIEVANCES.
@Busyhands He isn't saying or doing anything that MANY of us born and raised in America don't also think... guns are a serious problem in this country and serious measures need to be taken to do something about getting them off the streets and out of the hands of nuts.
I signed the petition earlier this afternoon around 12:30 and I was signature #45772
Just checked the total and it sits at 57,327 as of 8:30      Soooo Piers put that in
your pipe and smoke it...... : }
@hwystar71 So, basically you're telling me 50,000 people support this stupid inititaive. And our population is well over 300 milliion.
@DEJ737 It really is pretty pathetic, isn't it? Most of those people signed with a X.
@hwystar71 Keeping a running count of how many morons there are?
Yes Buckacamaroon I am...Looks like 59,291 signatures now... : )
@hwystar71 So 59,291 Americans support the second amendment but not the first? Nice.
