Pain patch throws teen into coma
KELSO, Wash. - A Washington teenager is in critical condition after he overdosed on a prescription pain patch containing the strong painkiller, Fentanyl.

The 17-year-old Kelso High School student was found unconscious Friday inside a Longview home. He was rushed to the hospital, where doctors found the patch, which was not prescribed to him. He's now said to be in a coma.

KOMO 4 is not naming the teen.

The teen's friends said the incident left them devastated.

"Very upset," said friend, Andrew Scrivner "Everyone's upset. It's just very emotional. I see people walking down the halls crying."

Scrivner does not believe his friend abused drugs.

"I don't know why he did it. Usually he doesn't do that stuff," he said. "Everyone makes mistakes, and he actually made a big one."

"There's a whole bunch of different kids in this school, and they all bring different stuff and want to pass it around for some reason," said Jamie Bolin, a junior at the school. "Good kids, you know, sometimes make the wrong choice. That's what happened to him."

Cowlitz County investigators said the teen acquired the patch at school. They're now interviewing several male students who may have given it to him.

The sheriff's office reminds citizens that it is unlawful to possess, transfer, or take drugs that require a prescription, but are not prescribed to them.
