Boy struck by school bus in Ferndale, airlifted to hospital
FERNDALE, Wash. -- A 7-year-year-old boy was airlifted to an area hospital after being struck by a school bus on Thursday afternoon.
The incident occurred in the 4200 block of Lummi Shore Dr. at approximately 4:44 p.m.
According to state troopers, the boy had just gotten off the school bus and was crossing in front of the bus when the bus struck him.
The boy was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle in critical condition.
Troopers believe lack of attention on the part of the school driver is to blame. They do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role.
The driver has not been charged.

"lack of attention on the part of the school driver is to blame"
How is the bus driver NOT being charged???? You can get a ticket for that driving your car. It's called "inattentive driving". I feel a lawsuit coming on.
The driver has not been charged......yet, or ....sued yet. My god, how do you run a child that was just on your bus?!
My thoughts and prayers for all involved in this terrible accident, particularly the injured boy and his family.
I think it is every bus drivers concern that some small child will walk in front of his bus were he can't see them and they end up getting hit. Most school buses I have seen have mirrors that allow a driver to see small objects below his vision line. This one must have lost his concentration for a moment. Some buses have a sweep that extends out to keep children from getting to close to the front of the bus. That school district should consider such a device.Â
Oh no, I hope the boy will be OK. I will keep him in my prays.Â
as a parent of 2 elementary kids, that makes me cringe ... airlifted is serious
I am not religious but I will pray for the boy and the driver.Â
