1 dead, 2 injured when boat overturns off Wash. coast

RAYMOND, Wash. -- One person was killed and two others were injured when the boat they were on overturned near the entrance to Willapa Bay.

Coast Guard Petty Officer Third Class Nathan Bradshaw said the three people were reported missing late Tuesday by a family member when they failed to return on time from a fishing trip.

The Coast Guard began searching at first light Wednesday using boats and a helicopter, and the helicopter crew spotted the overturned 24-foot boat washed ashore near Leadbetter Point, Bradshaw said.

One person was found dead at the scene and two others who were on the boat were hoisted into the Coast Guard helicopter and flown to a waiting ambulance. Both people were taken to a hospital in Aberdeen, but the exact nature of their injuries was not known.

Bradshaw said crews are still working to recover the body of the third victim.

It was not clear what caused the boat to overturn, and the name of the person who died has not been released.
