1 killed as pickup smashes into motorhome, 4 boats at Pt. Roberts

POINT ROBERTS, Wash. - A pickup smashed through a fence and crashed into four boats and a motorhome in Point Roberts on Friday evening, killing the driver, the Washington State Patrol reported.

State troopers responded to the scene, at Marina Drive and Tyee Drive in Point Roberts, at about 5:40 p.m. after receiving a report of a serious crash.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The name, age and hometown of the driver were withheld pending notification of next of kin.

A preliminary investigation found that the driver was heading south on Tyee Drive in a 2002 Chevy Avalanche when the pickup veered off the roadway at a curve.

The driver swerved to the left, then back to the right, then veered off the road, crashing through a fence before slamming into four boats and a motorhome at a marina.

No one else was reported to be hurt in the crash.

It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the deadly accident.
