1 killed as pickup veers off I-5, rolls down embankment

LYNNWOOD, Wash. - A man was killed early Thursday when his pickup veered off Interstate 5, slammed into a signpost and rolled several times down an embankment, the Washington State Patrol reported.
State troopers responded to the scene, on southbound I-5 at the Interstate 405 exit ramp, at about 2:15 a.m. Thursday after receiving a report of a serious accident.
The driver, a man in his 40s, was found dead at the scene. His name was not released pending notification of next of kin.
A preliminary investigation found that the man was driving south on I-5 in a red 2002 Ford Ranger pickup when he drifted off the roadway to the right and onto the grass shoulder of the off-ramp to southbound I-405.
The pickup slammed into a signpost, then rolled several times down an embankment before landing in the ditch.
The driver was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected from the vehicle. There were no passengers in the pickup and no other vehicles were involved in the accident.
It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.

Very sad to hear. He was a new security where I worked. RIP.
The article is incorrect. He was wearing his seat belt. Had he not he would have been ejected completely from the vehicle.
You will find out his name soon enough. He was an alumni of Shorewood High School. He is survived by a wife, three sisters and a nephew. He was not a resident of Vancouver but a resident of Marysville, WA. Huge fan of the Washington Huskies.
This is very sad, we live right across from were I-5 and 405 connect, and we heard the whole thing. It was so loud that we thought  that they landed in are back yard area. I was very sad to find out what truly happened... Yes it is sad that he had no seat belt on, which may of not made a difference.. But people need to stop saying he was drinking, or texting. If you dont know what truly happened then you don't need to make that call. I am sure they will release more information about what may of happened.. My prayers go out to his family and friends..Â
 @Acr1993 Thank you
 @Acr1993 He was my husband
From the looks of the drivers side, I don't think that a seat belt would have made much difference.  RIP
OKAY KOMO.....Uhmmm yea, we are not gonna say his name but.... your willing to post a pic of his MANGLED TRUCK????? Get a CLUE..... if you were a family member, or friend... IM PRETTY SURE..... you would recognize the TRUCK~ Gimme a break~ Common sense people~
Â
Blessings to the family & friends, sorry for your loss~
Â
To those who wish to ASSume....regardless of ones stupidity.... tiredness, lack of good judgement.... NO ONE... NO ONE....deserves such disrespect to be seen by MANY, during times such as these~
Â
Seriously............. some peoples kids need to GROW UP!!!!!
@Justice for All~ Oh yeah, that mangled truck really shows a lot of identification. I know probably know a dozen people who have a truck like that, so I guess I better call every one of them to find out who. Common sense?
@Zoso  @Justice for All~ I always stop reading the second I see the childish misspelling of a simple three-letter word, because nothing even remotely resembling intelligent thought ever comes with that slop.Â
Why waste time trying to read some crap the writer doesn't even care enough about to type properly?Â
Can anyone imagine, or have u been through a moment where.... U wake up, turn on the t.v, or go online and end up seeing your husband, brother, lover, friend, or co-workers vehicle all twisted up like that~ Shakin my head at the way the media does things these days~
@Justice for All~ I like the fact that his family was notified at 3pm. Hadn't even had the chance to notify everyone and his name was already being released! Really? How about 24hrs for the family to notify people. I am truly sorry to the family and friends that had to find out this way!
It's 2013 and people still don't wear seat belts. Â Â
I appreciate all the theories on what may have happened, but the ONLY thing we know of for certain - not wearing a seat belt.... Enough said I think.
OMG!! Drunk, Cell phone usage, or dozing while driving!!
Will we ever get it???
@reelin21 WOW reelin21 were you there? If not, Shut the F up!
Obviously. A crash. At Night. Only evil-doers out there at that time, right?
@jeff Really people! I'm his wife. How do you think that makes me feel. Can you please respect the deceased?
The bars close at 2:00am. Coincidence?
After reading about this on other sites, this was a Vancouver man so he was far from home so unless he was working temporarily in the area, maybe was on a long drive and possibly fell asleep.
@scared_citizen He was living in Marysville
So sad; sounds like he may have fallen asleep at the wheel. No seatbelt is dumb! RIP.
Sorry to this mans family. Â Wondering if it might have been caused by lack of sleep or medical condition. Â Then again, the timing of it make me think it could also be alcohol related. Â
So sad. Praying for those he left behind and those that wittnessed the accident. Seeing a fatality is a tough thing to shake.
Very sad, it does sound like he fell asleep..
Wear your seat belt, learned the hard way. RIP
Oh no, it sounds like he may have fallen asleep. I watched someone do just that years ago, drifted off in the fast lane, veered off to the left into the gravel & grass. I slowed down, gravel hit my windshield. I honked. They woke up, whipped it back onto the freeway; luckily without flipping, and rapidly got off at the next exit.
Â
Whatever the case, that is very sad.
