1 seriously injured in collision of van, motorcycle
SEATTLE - A 61-year-old motorcyclist suffered serious injuries after colliding with a car in Seattle's Industrial District Saturday evening, according to police.
The crash happened just before 7:00p.m., at the intersection of 1st Avenue South and South Hudson Street.
According to police, a BMW motorcycle collided with a Ford van. The motorcyclist was taken to Harborview Medical Center. The 56-year-old driver of the van was not injured.
Detective Mark Jamieson, with Seattle Police, said the driver of the van was evaluated for drug and/or alcohol use. Officers did not find any signs of impairment.
Traffic collision detectives are continuing to investigate the crash.
I saw this accident after it happened. There was no way it was the motorcyclists fault.
Did they evaluate the motorcyclist for drug and/or alcohol use?
@Hagar I'm sure they took the motorcyclists blood at the hospital since he wasn't in any real shape to do a field sobriety test right then and there.
@Hagar It is extremely possible and likely that the M/C driver was not at fault for thisÂ
accident and therefore was not tested.
@pete1427 @Hagar Agreed except for one point. My brother was t-boned by a car running s stop sign. The other driver managed to get my brother tested for alcohol and he blew a .11. My brother was found responsible for the accident since he should not have been on the road. There is a big word for it. If the scooter driver was under the influence he should not have been on the road. That is why I think all involved should be tested with every accident. And get more drunks off the road.
@Hagar @pete1427 It would also be relatively inexpensive to tuck a standard eye chart and tape measure in the squad cars, for a quick vision check.
Just like they conduct the field sobriety tests and depending upon the results more thorough substance testing if necessary, a rudimentary roadside test and if 20/50 or worse, they can give a more detailed visual acuity test back at the station and/or jail.
Too many people driving out there who know perfectly well they cannot read any of the traffic and street signs. Even worse, some would have excellent vision but still don't bother to wear their glasses and/or contact lenses.Â
