Dick's Drive-In to expand, but to where?
SEATTLE -- It's news that will have most Seattleites salivating -- Dick's Drive-In is expanding.
The iconic Seattle burger franchise announced Tuesday that for the first time in 36 years, they are going to build a new drive-in. But they haven't decided yet where they're going to build it.
That's where you come in. The company is asking for customers and fans to help select the next location, and it sounds like they are not limited to staying within the Seattle city limits, as the current five franchises sit.
They have set up a poll at DicksDriveIn.com with three choices -- North (south Snohomish County/Shoreline), South (West Seattle through Renton and Tukwila) or the Eastside. As of early Tuesday morning, voting was a virtual three-way tie.
(Note, due to intense interest, their servers have been slow at times, so we are also running a similar poll here on komonews.com and will forward the results to them to add into their numbers.)
The new restaurant will be the first for Dick's since they opened up their Queen Anne location in 1974.
"We are very excited to make this historic expansion after 36 years," Jim Spady, vice president of Dick’s Drive-Ins and son of co-founder and namesake, Dick Spady, said in a statement. "And we want to involve our customers and the community, asking everyone to help us find the best location for our next restaurant."
