SPANAWAY, Wash. -- An agitated man who refused to leave a Spanaway apartment building died Tuesday after being Tasered during a violent struggle with Pierce County Sheriff's deputies.

The man was visiting people at an apartment complex in the 100 block of 170th St. East when the people in the apartment asked him to leave. The man refused then broke a window inside the apartment, investigators said.

The 27-year-old man eventually went outside, grabbed a propane tank, and then threw it through another window. That's when residents called 911.

When deputies arrived, they found the man back inside hiding behind a couch. They ordered him to show his hands, but he was uncooperative, deputies said.

Deputies tried to arrest the man and a struggle ensued at which point deputies Tased the man. Deputies eventually were able to put the man in cuffs and bound his feet, but the man was still struggling.

Officers called paramedics as is standard procedure in a Tasing incident, but as they were waiting for medics to arrive, the man stopped breathing. Medics performed CPR and took the man to St. Clair Hospital in Lakewood hospital where he died.

Investigators say the believe the man was possibly high on drugs, but will do a full investigation.

Editor's Note: Initial reports from police indicated the man had broken into the apartment, but further investigation revealed the man was at the apartment before the incident began.
