MOUNTLAKE TERRACE, Wash. -- The former treasurer of a kids' soccer club's funds is accused of stealing thousands of dollars.

Lynn Wyatt is accused of stealing tens of thousands of dollars from the Terrace Brier Soccer Club. Snohomish County prosecutors said Wyatt wrote herself more than a hundred checks totaling more than $74.000.

"My first reaction was I felt like I somebody had just basically punched me in the stomach," said club president Tim Bressler. "We had paid some referees their reimbursement checks in February, and they were coming back 'non-sufficient funds' from the bank."

Bressler says the treasurer had sole responsibility of the money, meaning no one else ever checked the bank statements or signed the checks.

"Obviously (we are) very upset about it," said Bressler said. "But I wanted to make sure the kids didn't suffer and that's why we tried our hardest to make sure that they have everything going."

Bressler says Wyatt has already paid back $20,000, but hasn't offered any explanation.

Club members have put up their own money to keep the club afloat. Practices and games are still on the calendar. The goal is to have a season just like any other.

Wyatt is scheduled to be in court in two weeks. Three of her own children were members of the soccer club she allegedly stole from.
