Speeding car bursts into flames after crash, injuring 5
GRANITE FALLS, Wash. -- Five people were injured in a fiery crash near Granite Falls Friday morning.
Around 2:30 a.m., the 1995 Mitsubishi GT was speeding north on Robe Menzel road when the driver lost control of the car and struck a pole, said Rebecca Hover with the Snohomish County Sheriff's Department. The car then struck a tree and burst into flames.
The driver, a 22-year-old Arlington man, was critically injured, including burns, and was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Hover said.
There were four passengers in the car – two teenage girls and two teenage boys from the Lake Stevens and Edmonds areas. All four were taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Hover says in addition to speed, detectives are looking into whether alcohol was a factor in this bad crash. No arrests have been made yet.
The crash remains under investigation.
