Backhoe unearths shallow grave at Suncadia Resort
CLE ELUM, Wash. -- A backhoe operator has unearthed skeletal remains in a shallow grave near one of the golf courses at the Suncadia Resort.
The worker was working on trenching for a watering system for one of the golf courses Monday morning when he noticed a piece of clothing, said Kittitas County Undersheriff Clayton Myers.
He notified his supervisor, and the sheriff’s office was contacted, Myers said.
Preliminary investigation indicates the remains of a woman were found about 18 to 24 inches below the ground. Myers said it's not known how old the woman was or how long the body had been buried there.
The area where the body was found was cleared back in 2002, which could have made it an easy place to bury a body, Myers said.
A second investigative team is looking into cases involving missing women for clues into the woman's identity. The team, after failing to find any recent missing reports in Kittitas County that might be connected to this case, have expanded the search to other counties as well.
Myers would not say whether investigators have found any signs of homicidal violence.
