Paterson music teacher killed in collision on way to school
PATERSON, Wash. (AP) - Residents of the Benton County town of Paterson are mourning the death of the elementary school's music teacher.
Deborah Tegland was killed in a collision with a semi-truck while driving to school Friday on Highway 14.
Superintendent Peggy Douglas says Tegland's death is felt by the entire school, which has 98 students. The 56-year-old taught at the school since 2000.
In addition to teaching piano, Tegland organized school talent shows three times a year, started an after-school music club and was raising money for her students to have a recording session in Seattle.
Douglas says Tegland had moved to Umatilla after being married in June. She raised nine children in Prosser.
