SEATTLE (AP) - Tens of thousands of people in the Puget Sound area are in the dark as a winter storm barrels through Washington, and at least in Kitsap County, many residents are facing the challenge of going through Thanksgiving without power.

Puget Sound Energy spokeswoman Dorothy Bracken says of the 39,000 customers without power early Tuesday, 35,000 are in Kitsap County.

County officials said Tuesday that they don't expect full power restored to the county until Friday.

Meanwhile, Bracken says tree branches being blown into power lines by strong winds are to blame for the outages that peaked at 90,000. She says if the winds continue to be a problem through Tuesday, more power outages are possible.
