GOP challengers win in 3 Wash. legislative recounts

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - Three legislative recounts are now done, and the incumbents in each of the races have lost.

David Ammons, spokesman for Secretary of State Sam Reed, said Friday night that the Republican challengers in the two House races and one Senate race all held onto their slim leads after the recounts were completed.

In Pierce County's 25th District, Republican challenger Hans Zeiger beat Democratic incumbent Rep. Dawn Morrell by 30 votes. Democratic incumbent Sen. Randy Gordon lost to Republican challenger Steve Litzow by 192 votes in King County's 41st District, and in Whatcom County's 42nd District, Republican challenger Vincent Buys beat Democratic incumbent Rep. Kelli Linville by 149 votes.

Democrats have a 56-42 majority in the House and a 27-22 majority in the Senate.
