BREMERTON, Wash. (AP) - A newborn calf has been spotted with one of the pods of Puget Sound killer whales.

The Kitsap Sun reports it was photographed Monday in the San Juan Islands by Dave Ellifrit of the Center for Whale Research.

The center at Friday Harbor said it appeared to be just days old.

The calf was given the Number L117. It brings the total Puget Sound or Southern Resident orca population to 87.
