KENT, Wash. -- A woman was found brutally murdered in her Kent apartment Tuesday morning, and her killer is still on the loose.

A friend of the victim called 911 around 10 a.m. after finding her body at the Village at Lake Meridian Apartments at 25811 109th Ave. SE.

Detectives said the 45-year-old victim appears to have died after some sort of struggle as there are signs of violence.

Investigators noted the woman lived alone, but they have not found any signs of forced entry. She was last heard from on Monday, detectives said.

"It appears the struggle that led to her death is likely by a person who was invited into her apartment and was known to the victim, possibly," said Lt. Pat Lowery.

The victim's name has not been released, but Korry bell, who found the victim's body, said her friend was "a spitfire."

"She was a great lady, and like I say, she was my best friend. She was like my sister. and she'll be very much missed," she said.

Police do not have any suspects yet or a motive. They also haven't said how the woman died.

Investigators found the victim's three cats in the apartment, unharmed. Bell said Zander was her friend's favorite of the three. She hopes she'll be able to keep Zander as it still has the smell of her friend.

"She was a beautiful woman, a very loving, caring, friendly woman. And she's going to be very, very missed," said Bell.
