Alaska Air begins direct service from Bellingham to Honolulu
BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- You can now fly non-stop from Bellingham to Honolulu aboard a Boeing 737-800.

But who would go to Bellingham to go to Hawaii?

On Friday, there were 157 people, and nearly all of them from Vancouver B.C. or thereabout

Among them was Neil Bradbury, who saved the Vancouver B.C. airport fee.

"That's true that a good thing. But my wife will spend it. So it doesn't matter," he said.

"I will I'll do a fine job of that," said his wife, Arlene Bradbury.

So how much will these Canadians save?

Gary Bell payed $139 for his flight to Hawaii. He says the cost out of Vancouver would have been $700.

And the travelers are not the only ones who win. Alaska wins, and the city wins, too.

Just to make everything special, a Hawaiian holy man blessed the plane on Friday to mark the start of non-stop service from Bellingham.

The flight is a little longer than those from Seattle, so the load has to be a little less; there will be 10 free seats on each plane.
