Gary Shafer is seen in court on Friday, Jan. 28, 2011.
OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Facing accusations of child molestation, Gary Shafer told his wife, "I'm sick in the head and I need help," according to the statement of probable cause.

His wife told investigators she found what she believed to be child pornography on his computer in the wake of the allegations.

In court on Friday, a judge set bail at $50,000. In case of release, he was ordered to stay away from all children and to surrender a firearm he admitted he kept at his mother's house.

Shafer, 32, of Olympia is under investigation of two counts of first-degree child molestation for incidents that allegedly took place last month. He is accused of inappropriately touching two girls, ages 5 and 6.

On the day of the alleged incident, Shafer was acting as a helper aboard a bus belonging to the Olympia School District, investigators said. He was sitting directly behind the bus driver, learning the particular bus route when the abuse allegedly took place.

Shafer was removed from his route last month after a parent first made the allegations. He resigned on Jan. 19.

Shafer began working for the district in October 2005, and was never the subject of any disciplinary actions.

"We do background checks for all our employees. It came back clean," said district spokesman Peter Rex. "

Shafer does not have a criminal record.
