14-month-old boy killed in backover accident
KENT, Wash. -- A 14-month-old boy was killed when he was struck by a car outside his house on Wednesday night.

Investigators said the toddler managed to sneak out of his house in the 11700 block of SE 223 Place just before 7 p.m.

He wandered into a neighbor's driveway, and was hit by a car that was backing out of the driveway.

Medics arrived to find the boy in critical condition. The boy could not be stabilized and was pronounced dead before he could be airlifted to a Seattle hospital.

The driver of the car, an 18-year-old woman, said she did not see the boy. Officials do not believe the driver was impaired at the time.

"By all accounts, this appears to be a true accident," Lt. Pat Lowery said in a written statement. "Our thoughts are with both these families as they work to cope with this devastating loss."

The boy's name has not been released.
