Amtrak train hits car in Everett, driver seriously injured

EVERETT, Wash. -- A Chicago-bound Amtrak train hit a car on the tracks on Thursday night, seriously injuring the driver.

An Amtrak spokesman said the Empire Builder had just left the Everett station when it struck a car around 6:20 p.m.

The car was hit on the driver side, and pushed some 100 yards on the tracks, according to Everett police spokesman Robert Goetz.

The driver of the car was taken to Harborview Medical Center with serious injuries. Her condition was not known.

None of the 182 passengers and crew members aboard the train were injured.

The cause of the crash has not been determined, and the investigation is ongoing.
