SEATTLE - It was a big day for diversity in Seattle, as tens of thousands of people packed the streets to celebrate gay pride.
Flags and banners were waving proudly and cheers broke out as the procession made its way up Fourth Avenue. Some participants rode motorcycles, supporting the gay community.
This year - there was an extra air of celebration after lawmakers voted to legalize gay marriage in New York. Supporters hope it marks a new chapter in the equal rights movement.
"I think it's sort of a turning point for us, perhaps we'll get full equality and full rights soon," said Howard Bye, who was at the parade.
Erica Scott, another supporter of gay pride, said, "It's fantastic. You see families with small children, same-sex couples, straight couples bringing out their families exposing them to what's out there, letting them know it's OK to be who you are."
