Woman stabs man who tried to rape her

SEATTLE -- Police say a woman got away from a man who tried to rape her on Tuesday night when she fought back and stabbed him.

The attacker, who police said is an acquaintance of the victim, was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive.

Seattle police spokesman Jeff Kappel said the woman was waiting for a ride outside a friend's house in the Mount Baker neighborhood when the man, who lived nearby, invited the woman to wait in his house.

When the woman was inside the home in 2700 block of South Massachusetts Street, the the man tried to tear off her clothes. The woman, who is in her mid 20s, pulled out a knife and stabbed the man in the torso, Kappel said.

She ran out of the house screaming while the man chased her, and another neighbor helped the woman until police arrived.

Kappel said the attacker is under police guard at Harborview Medical Center and will be booked into jail for investigation of attempted rape.

The victim was not injured.
