Network failure causes nationwide debit card issues
SEATTLE -- A network failure caused a major nationwide outage of credit union ATM cards.

"A little after noon, processor Fidelity Information Systems had a disruption in their system which impacted all of the customers that the process debit card transactions for," said Boeing Employee Credit Union spokesman Todd Pietzch. "It was a nationwide problem affecting credit unions and other institutions across the country."

It meant that debit cards could not be used at ATMs or in stores.

"We've been working diligently with them through t the afternoon," Pietzch said.

The system was coming back on line late Friday afternoon and Pietzch expected full restoration by Friday evening.
