SHORELINE, Wash. -- An elderly woman was killed and two other elderly women were critically injured when their car crashed into the side of a fabric store in Shoreline Tuesday afternoon.

The incident happened just before 2 p.m. at the Jo Ann's Fabric store in the 15200 block of Aurora Avenue North, fire officials said.

Officials say the women had just finished lunch at a nearby restaurant and got into the car to leave. But just as they were strapping on their seat belts, the driver apparently hit the gas pedal instead of the brake, and the car zoomed across the parking lot.

The car smashed into a pole, jumped the curb and then crashed into the side of the fabric store. Officials didn't even find any skid marks on the pavement.

A worker at a nearby business heard the crash and rushed over to help.

"Looked in and the driver was moving, passenger wasn't moving," said Clyde Dippery. "And then somebody from next door mentioned that there was someone in back you couldn't even see."

Medics rushed all three women inside the car to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where one passenger was later pronounced dead. The driver and other passenger were listed in critical condition.

No one inside the store was hurt.
