SEATTLE -- A Seattle police detective was issued a citation for driving under the influence in Mukilteo on Thursday afternoon.

The detective, who is assigned to the department's Criminal Investigations Bureau, was arrested after he was involved in a multi-car crash while driving an unmarked police vehicle.

The detective rear-ended a car at the intersection of Chennault Beach Road and State Route 525, and pushed the hit car into two other vehicles, according to investigators. No one was seriously injured in the crash, which occurred around 1:20 p.m.

The 46-year-old detective refused a breathalyzer test, according to the Mukilteo Police Department. He was issued a citation, given a court date and released.

It was not immediately clear whether the detective was on duty at the time of the crash. He is said to be a 23-year veteran of the force. The unmarked GMC SUV the detective was driving at the time has been impounded.

Once the criminal case is resolved, the Seattle Police Department's Office of Professional Accountability will conduct its own administrative investigation.
