SEATTLE - The University of Washington student beaten last week has now says she screamed for help, but no one stopped.

And she remembers the attack and is well enough to talk about it.

It was just before 7 a.m. on Jan. 8 in the 1800 Block of 47th Avenue NE off the UW campus, when the 22-year old woman remembers being attacked at her car.

She saw the man. She saw the hammer he used to beat her. And she saw people who could have helped.

"She saw a lot of cars passing by and people and activity," says the woman's friend and mentor, Mary Erickson. "And the fact that no one stopped to help or called police has been disconcerting for her."

The victim also says she knocked on a door of a house, but no one answered.

Some witnesses have come forward and said things happened so quickly, they didn't realize the woman was in so much trouble.

If that's you, it's not too late to call.

"If people feel that they perhaps should've called 911 and they feel bad that they didn't, please don't feel that way," says Seattle Police Captain Mike Washburn. "We'd like you to get ahold of us. The information you have might be the key piece."

Officers who regularly work these streets are taking on extra duty, talking to their contacts and looking for any tidbits of information.

The victim is still at Harborview Medical Center waiting for plastic surgery to reconstruct her shattered cheekbone. She has vision problems, dizziness and headaches.

"She's definitely healing and I think the hardest part is going to be getting over the trauma. That's going to take some time," says Erickson.

Catching the attacker would be a huge step in her recovery. But it will take a tip from someone who still hasn't come forward.

CrimeStoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.

Anyone with information should call the Seattle Police Homicide Unit at 206-684-5550
